Thaibreak party dates at Luna Thong Nai Pan Noi.

So we finally have the Thaibreak dates. Along with the many parties comes of course the 200 Germans who make up the Thaibreak party crew!! Bringing their own DJ’s and a lot of revenue to the Beach Bars of Thong Nai Pan in Koh Phangan, Thaibreak lasts two weeks and will be here soon!!! Opening party will of course be at Baan Panburi 10th of March! Other parties over the two weeks will be held at Pongs new place ‘Better Than Sex’, Jungle Bar, Funky Buddha and of course our fantastic Luna Lounge!! We are doing two parties this year on the 12th and 15th of March. The School party which is held in Thong Nai Pan Yai and raises money for the local school and temple will be on the 16th and the grande finale will be at Baan Panburi on the 21st.

This year all parties will have a door charge for non-Thaibreakers, at this time we are not sure how much it will be however know that all proceeds will be donated to the local school so you can party knowing you are helping the local community at the same time!

Thaibreak has built an amazing reputation for its fantastic parties and all the local bars who help this happen pull out all the stops making it the most amazing party time in Thong Nai Pan. Check out the footage of last years Thaibreak Luna party and get yourself there this year!!

Thaibreak 2010 at Luna.

High season in Thong Nai Pan.

On the beaches of Thong Nai Pan on Ko Pangyang we are having a great high season! Things at Luna and Sala cafe have been busy with plenty of new faces and many old ones returning! We have added a few more delights to the menu bringing a fantastic new range of salads and of course all the old favourites remain!

Other news of Thong Nai Pan Noi restaurants is PiPong has opened his new restaurant opposite Luna, it is called ‘Better than Sex’ and in true Pong style has a delicious menu.

Other Island news, the recent Full Moon Party was once again extremely busy with most koh Phangan resorts and hotels fully booked over those few days.

Next on the agenda in Thong Nai Pan is Thaibreak 2011!! We are expecting two parties at Luna this year and sticking with tradition Thaibreak will kick off with the Baan Panburi party and the grande finale party will be the school party that raises money for the local School and temple on Thong Nai Pan Yai. Get your party pants on cause they’ll be here soon!

World Cup Showing on Thong Nai Pan Noi

It’s finally here folks…..World Cup 2010 is upon us, and here on Thong Nai Pan the excitement is rising hour by hour.

Sala cafe will be showing all the games of course, with the lovely Gordon cooking up some football grub for those games that fall late night in addition to the delicious Sala daily menu.

If you’re on holiday and want to join in the action come on down to Sala where you can enjoy our 42 inch flatscreen TV and an excitable crowd of friends egging on their teams.

With that, I just have one more sentiment to add on a personal note:

COME ON ENGLAND………………

Bangkok protests affect tourism.

The recent unrest in Bangkok has been causing serious problems with the tourist industry in Thailand. The group known as the red shirts have been protesting  for the past two months against the new prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and refuse to leave their encampemnt on Silom road which is in the heart of the business district of Bangkok. After the riot which broke out in april due to a clash with the military, which left 23 people dead and many more injured the western world has put out serious warnings about the safety of travelling in Thailand, advising people that the country is seriously dangerous.

It is a shame that the whole of the country is suffering mass tourism problems due to the situation which is happening in one street of Bangkok. Having been to Bangkok myself and actually walked right through the centre of the red shirts encampment from end to end, I have to say  that the atmosphere was very peaceful and had more of a festive feel than one of aggression. Thats not to say its like that all the time, however the majority of Thailand is. Nothing has changed down here on Koh Phangan apart from the dwindling number of people coming out to beaches like Thong Nai Pan.

Having spoken to many people in Thong Nai Pan Noi, and visitors to Luna Lounge, it seems that most peoples experiences of Bangkok have been fairly normal ones, without disruption or even any notice of the problems in Silom road.  However after  lastnights second major clash with the army things may be pretty tense in the capitol right now. But down on Ko Phangan things remain the same, beautiful scorching weather and calm blue sea!  We hope to see more people down here soon!

The Closing of Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop

Wednesday evening was the end of an era on Thong Nai Pan Noi, with the closing of the legendary Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop Pharmacy.

Occupying the centre location of Thong Nai Pan Noi’s beautiful beach, Baan Pong’s has been an island institution for more than fifteen years. Way back in the day, when Pong’s was located at the far end of the beach, it was the centre of the backpackers’ and partygoers’ universes on Thong Nai Pan. Many a long night was spent drinking the board, playing Bert’s torurous beach games, or dancing in the sand.

Halycon World Cup Days

All was accompanied by the inimitable sounds of Pi Pong’s uproarious laugh and fab music. Nightly Pong could be found in the kitchen, whipping up a red curry, or Gaeng ped ped  yang as the mood took him. The food was fabulous, the atmosphere fantastic, and the dawn’s too quick.

Later when Pong, Bert and Roman moved up the beach a new phase began, with a classier feel, but a similarly relaxed atmosphere and great food. The locals were unfailingly loyal, and friends from across the globe migrated to the new location, Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop. As more and more farang made Thong Nai Pan their home, the beautiful wooden house in the middle of the beach became the community meeting place and home-from-home for many of us.

On wednesday night everyone turned up to say au revoir, but not goodbye, to the old Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop. The loyal, the locals, the regulars and old friends from far and wide danced their socks off for the last time at Baan Glang Ow. Speedboats ferried people from Samui, friends made their entrance from all over Ko Phangan. The place was packed, and though people wore black as a symbol of their sadness at the closing, the energy was fantastic, and they drank the bars dry in true Thong Nai Pan style.

Pi Pong was on sparkling form, singing, waving and saying goodbye to the old place. In true Pong style he was one of the last men standing as they turned off the decks for the last time.

No doubt, Pong and his powerful personality will be going on to bigger and better things, with several projects in the pipeline. But for many of the residents, and long-time visitors of Thong Nai Pan the closure of Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop will leave a huge hole in the community. For many of the farang here, Pi Pong is the reason we chose to live, re-locate, or open a business on Thong Nai Pan. For those who have been a follower from back in the day, Pi Pong, is Thong Nai Pan.

The day after the party the demolition crews moved in, and by two in the afternoon, the roof, side salas and most of the main structure had been ripped to shreds. A few remaining hardcore stayed sitting at  the Flip Flop bar drinking the last Singhas, unearthed during the clear out, and saying farewell to their second home.

So with fond memories, the scent of Jaeger in our nostrils, and a sizeable hangover we bid au revoir to the legends that have been Baan Pong’s and Flip Flop. We wish Pi Pong, Bert and Roman the best of luck for their new ventures and want to thank them for many years of happiness and beautiful Thong Nai Pan days spent in their establishments.

Justin Lavigne-Floral Designer.

We were lucky to enjoy the company of Justin Lavigne the last couple of weeks on Thong Nai Pan Noi. Justin who is a Flower designer and Interior Landscaper with an impressive CV, came and arranged the flowers for Faye and Eddie’s Golden wedding anniversary at Luna Lounge last week. He works at Martha’s vineyard which is the second biggest wedding destination in the US. Trained in New York and San Fransisco, his designs have graced the tables of the rich and famous from coast to coast. With an eye for beauty his artistic and creative skills make even the most plain flowers look spectacular.  Extensive experience and a real talent have given Justin a colourful and interesting career which has undoubtedly taken him to many interesting places.  Whilst here in Thong Nai Pan he helped to make the evening of Faye and Eddies anniversary special with his inspired designs. The transformation of Luna was complete with his floral masterpieces taking centre stage, creating a romantic and festive ambiance for an evening of great food in beautiful surroundings. Many thanks to Justin and we hope to see him on Koh Phangan again soon!

Sala Cafe open at Last!!

The opening of the Sala Cafe on Feb 20th was a great success. With a colourful array of the new deserts and lots of friendly faces, we enjoyed celebrating the start of a new journey. The free tasters dissapeared rather quickly and so the afternoon was spent enjoying the new space to relax with friends. The passion fruit Cheesecake is set to be a favourite and many a person has already popped in for an afternoon slice. Bringing some new flavours to Thong Nai Pan, Gordon has created a menu featuring many a favourite and some interesting new things to try too.

The venue in the centre of Thong Nai Pan Noi, Koh Phangan, has proved a success, and with the open air and comfy wicker chairs its the perfect place to while away an afternoon with a good book or good conversation. Being central in the village it is great for people watching and a nice place to take a desert and coffee after dinner. Unfortunately we are not selling food in the evenings however there are many other Thong Nai Pan restaurants serving dinner including Luna Lounge just down the road. Luna and now Sala too seem to be favoured by a lot of people staying in the Thong Nai Pan hotels and resorts and we regularly get complimented on the standard of the food and the general all round experience.

Sala Cafe is open everyday from 10am till late in the evening serving breakfasts and Lunch’s. Luna Lounge is open 6.30pm till late for dinner’s and both places have a selection of our new mouth-watering desserts.

The latest from Luna

Firstly i would like welcome our new executive chef Gordon to Koh Phangan! Gordon will be adding to our menu with delicious, creative dishes featuring the freshest local produce and ocean-caught fish. He is now introducing a scrumptious new selection of homemade deserts and breads which will be a major feature of the Luna cafe (also in Thong Nai Pan Noi). Unfortunately the cafe opening is now postponed till the 18th of february due to the building taking slightly longer than planned (we want to get it just right for you all). However we have an exciting valentine evening planned at Luna Lounge with a three course menu (shown below), a glass of crisp bubbly Prosecco and an all round lovely romantic evening. Couples and singles welcome however we do ask that you book in advance. Hope to see you there……
