Wedding in Thong Nai Pan

A swedish couple called Henrik and Ulrika had a beautiful Wedding recently on the beach of Thong Nai Pan Yai on Ko Pang Yang. It was organised by Luna owner and took place at Undersky restaurant. It started with drinks and a variation of snacks before the western ceremony took place in the afternoon on the beach under the shade of white silk blowing in the breeze, the whole place was decked out with lushious greenary and stunning arrangements of orchids. Friends and family watched from chairs decorated with silk and fresh posies of flowers. Following this there was a traditional Thai ceremony where all the guests sat on cushions and watched as the local monks blessed the happy couple. As the sun went down everyone mingled with glasses of chilled champagne and dinner was laid out. A delicious buffet of Thai and western dishes created by Luna restaurant was enjoyed at four long tables on the beach with the most beautiful flower arrangements adorning each table and romantic candlelight. With everyone pleasantly full and the drink flowing there was speaches and then the first dance which took place in a semi-circle of candles on the beach.

Before the party got going everyone was given paper lanterns which were then lit and sent up into the sky. It was the most beautiful sight as loads of lights floated through the night sky going in any direction the wind took them and carrying the wishes of all those close to the couple. After the cutting of the magnificent wedding cake and coffee the rest of the evening was spent with everyone enjoying music from local DJ Met.

It was the most magical evening and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.

If you are interested in getting married in paradise please get in contact and see what we can do to make yout wedding as magical as Henrik and Ulrikas was for them.

High season in Thong Nai Pan.

On the beaches of Thong Nai Pan on Ko Pangyang we are having a great high season! Things at Luna and Sala cafe have been busy with plenty of new faces and many old ones returning! We have added a few more delights to the menu bringing a fantastic new range of salads and of course all the old favourites remain!

Other news of Thong Nai Pan Noi restaurants is PiPong has opened his new restaurant opposite Luna, it is called ‘Better than Sex’ and in true Pong style has a delicious menu.

Other Island news, the recent Full Moon Party was once again extremely busy with most koh Phangan resorts and hotels fully booked over those few days.

Next on the agenda in Thong Nai Pan is Thaibreak 2011!! We are expecting two parties at Luna this year and sticking with tradition Thaibreak will kick off with the Baan Panburi party and the grande finale party will be the school party that raises money for the local School and temple on Thong Nai Pan Yai. Get your party pants on cause they’ll be here soon!

Christmas and New years!

Christmas in Thong Nai Pan was a busy affair. With the beach busying up again after a quiet monsoon, festive promise was in the air. At Luna we put on a delicious turkey buffet with all the trimmings and of course cranberry sauce, along with home made eggnog and bucks fizz. The evening was truly christmasy with everyone groaning over full tummies and even a touch of the exotic with a fantastic fire dancing show by our new employee, the amazing Zin. We had local DJ Met mixing up some dance tunes along with some classical christmas songs helping to add that extra festive sparkle.

Haad Rin beach on Koh Phangan is the home of the full moon party, they also throw a massive New Years celebration every year. Thousands crowd onto the beach for a night of wild dancing and drinking out of buckets. This New Years was no exception with taxis filled to burst heading out of Thong Nai Pan throughout the evening. Some of the cars turned back due to the road having not quite recovered from monsoon and being too muddy. However there was no shortage of people there and with fire spinning and fireworks across the beach as the countdown to 2011 started, it was a spectacular evening.

New years eve at Luna was a relaxed affair with everybody heading to the beach to watch the amazing display of fireworks at the turn of the year! Thong Nai Pan although not nearly as busy as Haad Rin still had plenty of people about having a drink or two. We hope to see you all over 2011. Happy New Year!

Hideaway Closes…..The End of An Era

More change is afoot on Thong Nai Pan Noi, with the closing of Hideaway Bar recently. Locals, loyalists and longterm hedonists were all saddened to see the demise of one of the original and best places to party on Thong Nai Pan.

Over the years Hideaway has been host to some absolutely legendary parties, with people working the decks from local friends to famous international DJs. K and Sara created a wonderful, characterful bar with great tunes, a great atmosphere, delicious fry-ups and of course, amazing tattoos.

Sara and K posted on Facebook “Hideaway has been witness to the most important things that’ve happened in my life so far, brought me some of the best friends I could ever have and some of the loveliest people I could ever hope to meet….love to all those that shared this with K and I!”

Hideaway will be sorely missed and Friday nights on Thong Nai Pan will certainly never be the same again. This week the building was disassembled and it was a very poignant and emotional reminder for many of the huge changes that have come to Thong Nai Pan in recent years.

Golden Wedding Annivesary!

We were honored to host the 50th Wedding anniversary of  Fay and Eddie last week with a splendid evening of amazing food and beautiful surroundings. Most of the village of Thong Nai Pan Noi were invited and were treated with a range of mouth-watering thai curries along with freshly baked rolls and a mix of salads courtesy of our new chef Gordon. As you walked into Luna Lounge there were hundreds of little candles lighting up the walls, with a golden drape wishing Fay and Eddie a Happy Anniversary. The floral decorations were the final touch, a beautiful mix of white flowers amongst the green of the stems, artistically arranged and designed by Justin Lavigne, who we were lucky enough to have visiting Thong Nai Pan for a holiday. With the low romantic lighting and some melodic music the place was perfect.   At 11 pm, which was the time they said there vows in England all those years ago we brought out the cake, a delicious white vanilla sponge with a cheesecake filling and an anniversary message on top. Fay and Eddie seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. Watching them slow dancing together made me think how lovely it its to see the couples who do make it and are still genuinely in love 50 years later. Lets hope they have many more ahead of them!

Thai Break Germans descend on Thong Nai Pan Noi!

Every year Thong Nai Pan is taken over by around 200 Germans coming for Thaibreak, two weeks of mad partying with top german DJ’s on a beautiful and normally fairly quiet beach on Koh Phangan. The Thong Nai Pan hotels, bungalows and resorts are fully booked and other tourists have a hard time finding accommodation. Arranged by a man called Thomas who pre-books all the parties with the different bars and restaurants. From the opening night at Baan Panburi which is awash with fireworks and fireshows, each bar decorates and prepares for the hordes who arrive on the evening of their party. At Luna Lounge we are hosting two of the parties, the first of which was last wednesday and was a big success. With a great fireshow from Zen and some fantastic DJ’s the night went of with a blast and we hope their final party, also at Luna on the 31st will be an equally great night.

The revenue brought to the beach every year by Thaibreak is fantastic and is often the busiest night a year that many places have. They only hold one party in Thong Nai Pan Yai which is a fundraiser for the local school and is held on their grounds and at the local temple. Almost everywhere else closes and the majority of both beaches attend. Local businesses often hold food stalls and the choice of local cuisine is mouth-watering! The school children perform traditional Thai dancing on a stage in front of hundreds of tables and chairs set up for eating and socialising. The locals spend the days  leading up to the party decorating especially around the temple where they build a DJ booth and set up a bar. As you walk from the school to  the temple you are greeted by fantastic decorations and a night of dancing awaits you. It is a festive evening and a lovely chance for the both beaches to do something together.

The Zin Master – Thailand Fire Dancing

Here’s a treat: I just found this video from one of the Luna Phangan Island parties last year. Zin is an amazing fire dancer graces us with his presence on occasion. Just watch this boy’s style…..

The Building of Luna

Finally after nearly three years, I’ve put together a slideshow of the building of Luna. When I look at these pictures now, I can’t believe the scale of the project we undertook, just incredible. It seemed like we just jumped in and the next thing we were on this roller coaster ride. Now I feel quite proud of what we’ve achieved and can’t believe that this building started out as the bags of cement and wooden planks you see here!

Sala Cafe Opening Feb 14th!!!

We are happy to finally anounce the opening of  the Luna Cafe! We have a great location in the centre of  Thong Nai Pan Noi opposite the Jungle Bar which over the next few weeks we will be transforming into another great place to eat scrumptious foods and sit about chatting over coffees. We will be doing a delicious brunch menu featuring homemade breads, (I’m sure some of you will remember the sandwiches we were selling at Luna for a short while last year,)  salads and a fantastic selection of deserts and mixed fruit shakes with as always our own Luna twist. After having many a complaint that we are not open during the day, we are now creating the perfect day time chill out spot with all the great flavours of Luna and a new menu to boot! We will be opening on Febuary the 14th so make your lover’s Valentine’s Day by treating them with a new Luna desert or even just a great cup of coffee (no nescafe in sight).

Other things on in Koh Phangan at the moment are the Flair cocktail shows over on Thong Nai Pan Yai. Central Cottage Resort has had the winners of ’06 and ’07  Flair Bartending championship perform twice now on the beach outside their restaurant and hope to make it a regular event with the Champion of Asia coming to perform too. So far both men have been fantastic to watch as they spun alight bottles through  the air, juggling and drawing in the sand with fire. Along with fantastic local fire spinner Zin (who is also a regular to perform at Luna parties and also Rasananda) and cheap deals on cocktails, it makes for a great evening out.
